About me

I am Laura Knoops, known as The Equine Landscaper. I am a passionate garden and landscape designer as well as a horse enthusiast. Enhancing equine welfare is my mission. The most significant impact can be made in the place where the horse spends the majority of its time, namely the horse's housing.

In this course, I will teach you how to think "out of the box" both literally and figuratively, so that you can create housing that better aligns with the natural needs and behaviors of your horses.

This course is the culmination of over 10 years of experience as a landscape designer. During this period, I have created tracks on sand, clay, and peat soil – horse environments where both sport and leisure horses can enjoy year-round free movement and dry hooves.

Exactly what I needed

Our horses had been standing in a dull sand paddock for several years, with only a couple of hours in the pasture during summer. It's boring for them and a waste of the pasture space they could barely make use of. Designing something suitable for them, however, is not as simple. While there is plenty of inspiration on the internet, it's not enough to get started. I enrolled in the course, which was exactly what I needed. The course is very well structured. Laura provides a strong foundation, thoroughly discussing each component, offering countless tips, and sharing abundant inspiration from her own horse garden, providing ample guidance to start designing. My design is nearly complete, and I'm eager to implement it. If you are looking to create a horse garden yourself or want to learn more about nature-inclusive equine housing, you really need to turn to Laura!

Designing a track is simple, but not easy.

The most common mistakes, in no particular order, include:

  • Too much or too little track surface

  • Excessive focus on movement and insufficient space for resting on the track

  • Complex and incorrect design

  • Unsafe situations

  • Lack of proper landscape integration

  • Incorrect material usage

  • Improper construction methods leading to mud formation

Making incorrect choices can lead to unnecessary high costs, not to mention the frustration

I absolutely want to avoid this
